Motty Steinmetz was born Yisrael Baruch Mordecai Steinmetz on July 5, 1992, in Bnei Brak, Israel. He is a Hasidic singer of Ashkenazi descent and began learning traditional Vizhnitz tunes from his grandfather at age 14. In his early teens, he was discovered by producer Ruvi Banet. Steinmetz released his debut album Haneshama Bekirbi in 2017, which achieved platinum certification in Israel. His second album Atik Yomin was released in January 2022. Throughout his career, Steinmetz has performed religious Jewish songs, often using lyrics directly from scripture or prayers.
