Biography

Motohiro Hata was one of Japan's most popular solo artists during the late 2000s and 2010s, earning more than 20 consecutive Top 40 hits after the release of his debut single, "Synchro," in 2006. He was born in Nichinan, Miyazaki, on October 11, 1980, and relocated with his family to Yokohama two years later. Although he released an independent EP, Orange no Haikei no Akai Seibutsu, in 2004, it wasn't until 2006 that Motohiro Hata reached the mainstream with "Synchro," which climbed to Number 44 in Japan. Contrast, his debut album, followed in 2007 and produced the singles "Uroko" and "Aoi Chō," both of which charted within the Top 25. Albums like 2008's Alright, 2010 Documentary, 2013 Signed Pop, and 2015's Ao no Kōkei followed, which all four releases reaching the Top 10 of the Oricon Albums Chart. Motohiro Hata also enjoyed continues success on the singles charts, with 2010's "Ai" and 2014's "Himawari no Yakusoku" both receiving platinum certifications. Those two tracks, along with a decade's worth of radio hits, appeared on the compilation album All Time Best Hata Motohiro, which arrived in 2017 and marked Hata's first time charting at Number 1. He continued released music with 2019's Copernicus, which reached Number 6, and earned another Top 20 hit in 2022 with the single "サイダー."
