Biography
Mondo Rock, an Australian rock band from Melbourne, was formed in Novemberâ¯1976 by Ross Wilson, the former frontman of Daddy Cool, who provided lead vocals, guitar, and harmonica. Their first significant single, "State of the Heart", peaked at number 6 on the Australian Kent Music Report inâ¯1980, and the followâup "Cool World" reached numberâ¯8 inâ¯1981. The debut album Primalâ¯Park (1979) had modest chart success, but the 1981 release Chemistry reached numberâ¯2 on the same chart, cementing the groupâs popularity; singles from that album included "Chemistry", which reached numberâ¯20, and "Summer of '81", which hit number 31. Subsequent studio albums include Nuovoâ¯Mondo (1982), Theâ¯Modernâ¯Bop (1984), Boomâ¯Babyâ¯Boom (1986), and Whyâ¯Fightâ¯It (1990), which were released under major labels such as WEA and Polydor. The band disbanded in 1991, with Wilson pursuing a solo career, but reunited in 2014 to perform the album Chemistry and released the live album Summer of '81, Live at the Pier in 2020.
