Miguel Laure Rubio, known professionally as Mike Laure, was born on September 29, 1937, in El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico. He started his music career in the late 1950s as a rock & roll musician and formed Mike Laure y sus cometas in 1957. In the early 1960s, Mike Laure shifted to tropical rhythms, notably cumbia, achieving his first major success with "Tiburón a la vista". His subsequent hits included "La banda borracha" (1966), which topped Mexican music charts. Known as "El Rey del Trópico," Mike Laure combined Afro-Caribbean and Colombian instruments with rock & roll elements, creating a unique sound that influenced future tropical music groups. He also appeared in several Mexican films. Mike Laure passed away in 2000 in Mexico City.
