Biography
Real name Michael Holbrook Penniman, born in Beirut, Lebanon, on August 18, 1983, Mika grew up in England, where he studied art at the Royal Academy of Music, before moving to Paris, where his singing career took off. Gifted with a broad, supple tessitura worked on with a Russian singing teacher, he found success in 2006 with the title track "Relax, Take It Easy", followed by the number one "Grace Kelly" and a debut album ranked No. 1 in several countries including the UK, France and Belgium, Life in Cartoon Motion (2007). Musically, melodically and vocally, Mika impresses the industry, which honors him with a BRIT Award the following year. Following the release of the Songs for Sorrow EP, Mika's second album The Boy Who Knew Too Much (2009), No. 4 in the UK and No. 1 in France, includes the hit "We Are Golden", while two years later French audiences rave about "Elle me dit". In 2012, The Origin of Love, his third consecutive No.1 in France, featured the American rapper Pharrell Williams on the duet "Celebrate". As of 2014, the singer alternates his singing career with his work as a juror on The Voice, la plus belle voix. In parallel, the English-language albums No Place in Heaven (2015) and My Name Is Michael Holbrook (2019) were recorded. Back in 2022 with the track "Yo Yo", remixed by R3hab, Mika composed the soundtrack for the film Zodi & Téhu, Frères du Désert (2023) and recorded a sixth personal album entitled Que Ta Tête Fleurisse Toujours, featuring the single "C'est la vie" and a tribute to the late British singer in "Jane Birkin". In 2026 follows the seventh original album Hyperlove, which reaches No. 10 in France and No. 14 in the UK.
