midnightPumpkin, a sixâmember Japanese ska group formed in 2002, emerged from Tokyoâs vibrant music scene with members Wakana (vocals), Maya (vocals), Shinya (drums), Hiroki (trumpet), Haru (trumpet), Aya (saxophone), and Joe (guitar). Their debut LP Time Limit was released on 26â¯Octoberâ¯2005, establishing a blend of rock and world music influences that would characterize their catalog. The single "VEGA / CRYBABY" followed on 5â¯Julyâ¯2006, serving as the opening theme for the television drama Princess Princess D and marking the bandâs first chart appearance. Subsequent releases, including the albums POP IRONY (15â¯Novemberâ¯2006), SLASH (25â¯Aprilâ¯2007), Us and U (7â¯Octoberâ¯2009), and LOVERATORY (21â¯Julyâ¯2010), expanded their repertoire, with tracks such as "BOYS&GIRLS" gaining airplay and contributing to the groupâs growing popularity. The band toured extensively, notably the Pop Irony and Slash tours, and signed with Xtra Large Records. On Halloween 2011, midnightPumpkin performed their final show before disbanding, concluding an eightâyear career that left a lasting imprint on Japanâs ska and rock scenes.
