Biography

midnightPumpkin, a six‑member Japanese ska group formed in 2002, emerged from Tokyo’s vibrant music scene with members Wakana (vocals), Maya (vocals), Shinya (drums), Hiroki (trumpet), Haru (trumpet), Aya (saxophone), and Joe (guitar). Their debut LP Time Limit was released on 26 October 2005, establishing a blend of rock and world music influences that would characterize their catalog. The single "VEGA / CRYBABY" followed on 5 July 2006, serving as the opening theme for the television drama Princess Princess D and marking the band’s first chart appearance. Subsequent releases, including the albums POP IRONY (15 November 2006), SLASH (25 April 2007), Us and U (7 October 2009), and LOVERATORY (21 July 2010), expanded their repertoire, with tracks such as "BOYS&GIRLS" gaining airplay and contributing to the group’s growing popularity. The band toured extensively, notably the Pop Irony and Slash tours, and signed with Xtra Large Records. On Halloween 2011, midnightPumpkin performed their final show before disbanding, concluding an eight‑year career that left a lasting imprint on Japan’s ska and rock scenes.
