Biography

Michel Pilz, born on October 28, 1945, in Bad Neustadt an der Saale, Germany, was a Luxembourgish jazz musician known for his work as a bass clarinetist. He studied classical clarinet at the Conservatory of Luxembourg before transitioning to jazz and joined Manfred Schoof's Quintet in 1968. Pilz toured extensively with ensembles like the German All Stars and Globe Unity Orchestra. Throughout his career, he collaborated with notable musicians such as Peter Kowald, Paul Lovens, Itaru Oki, and Buschi Niebergall. He released several albums, including Carpathes (1976) with Peter Kowald and Paul Lovens, Tilly's Eyes (2011) with Bob Degen, and Rimbaud #4 (2015). Pilz was also a founding member of the Jazzclubluxembourg. He passed away on November 2, 2023, at the age of 78.
