Michael Renkel is a German concert guitarist and composer born in 1965 in Celle. He studied classical guitar in Hamburg and developed a musical style in the mid-1980s that incorporated instrument preparations and advanced playing techniques. Renkel's work involved aleatoric composition, variable forms, and structures influenced by figures such as John Cage and Morton Feldman. He integrated live electronics and computer technology into his performances, combining acoustic preparation with electronic variance. His recording career included the album Still (2004) and collaborations with performers such as Phil Minton and Sven-Ã ke Johansson. Renkel's compositions were published by Verlag Neue Musik in Berlin. Beginning in 1996, he participated in international concert activities and musical cooperations.
