Michael Renkel is a German concert guitarist and composer born in 1965 in Celle. He studied classical guitar in Hamburg and developed a musical style in the mid-1980s that incorporated instrument preparations and advanced playing techniques. His recording career included the album Still (2004) and collaborations with performers such as Phil Minton and Sven-Åke Johansson. Renkel's compositions were published by Verlag Neue Musik in Berlin. Beginning in 1996, he participated in international concert activities and musical cooperations.
