Merline Johnson, born around 1912 or 1918 in Mississippi, was an American blues singer known as The Yas Yas Girl. She began her recording career in Chicago in 1937 with songs like "Sold It to the Devil". Over the next four years, she recorded over 90 tracks, including notable hits such as "Don't You Make Me High", "I'd Rather Be Drunk", and "Love with a Feeling". Johnson's repertoire included juke joint blues delivered in a distinctive voice, often accompanied by prominent musicians like Big Bill Broonzy, Lonnie Johnson, and Blind John Davis. Her final recordings were made in 1947 but were not released at the time. Merline Johnson was also known as the aunt of singer LaVern Baker.
