Megan Slankard, born June 15, 1983 in Tracy, California, is an American singer-songwriter. She began learning guitar at age 10 and produced her first album, Lady Is a Pirate, at 17 with her brother. After turning 18, Slankard toured Europe as the opening act for David Knopfler and co-wrote the song "Ship of Dreams" with him. Her album Freaky Little Story was a top ten seller on Amazonâs CD sales chart in 2003. Slankard released the EP A Little Extra Sun in 2005 and won the Independent Music Awards Vox Pop award for Best Cover Song in 2016 for her rendition of "America." In July 2011, she formed The Novelists with Joel Ackerson, Zack Teran, and Eric Andersen. Slankard released A Token of the Wreckage in 2011 and Running on Machinery in 2015.
