MaurÃcio Pereira, born November 8, 1959 in São Paulo, Brazil, is a singer-songwriter known for his work with experimental rock duo Os Mulheres Negras. In 1984, he met musician André Abujamra and the following year they formed Os Mulheres Negras, releasing two albums through WEA (present-day Warner Music Group) before disbanding in 1991. Pereira began his solo career with Na Tradição in 1995, which received positive reviews. His second album, Mergulhar na Surpresa, featured pianist Daniel Szafran and was released in 1998. In 2007, he released his third solo album, Pra Marte, including the notable song "Trovoa", which was covered by various artists. Pereira's most recent studio album is Outono no Sudeste (2018). He also became part of The Universal MaurÃcio Orchestra in 2015 and published his first book, the memoir/songbook Minha Cabeça Trovoa, in 2023.
