Matt Terry, born Matthew James Terry on May 20, 1993, in London, is a singer and songwriter. In 2016, he auditioned for the thirteenth series of The X Factor, singing a cover of Ben E. King's "Stand by Me", which earned him four yes votes from the judges. He was mentored by Nicole Scherzinger and reached the live shows. On December 11, 2016, he was crowned as the winner of The X Factor 2016, over Saara Aalto. He immediately released his winner's single, "When Christmas Comes Around", an original song written by Ed Sheeran, which peaked at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart.
Following his win, Matthew James Terry signed with RCA Records and released his debut album, Trouble, on November 24, 2017. The album charted at number 29 on the UK Albums Chart. In 2018, he made his acting debut in the UK production of Madagascar â The Musical. Matt Terry returned to music in October 2023 with the single "You Don't Know Nothing", followed by "Ghost of Me" and "His Car".
