Roy Alexander Batherson, known professionally as Matt Minglewood, was born on January 31, 1947, in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. He started his musical career in his late teens with The Rockin' Saints, playing organ and rhythm guitar at local high school dances. In 1974, Minglewood formed The Minglewood Band, which toured extensively across Canada and achieved national success with their self-titled debut album released by Solar Records in 1976. The band received a Juno Award nomination for Most Promising Group of the Year in 1980. After a sabbatical from 1984 to 1985, Minglewood launched his solo career and released albums such as Me And The Boys (1985) and The Promise (1988), which included the single "Runaway". Throughout his career, he won and was nominated for numerous awards. In January 2020, he was inducted into the Casino Nova Scotia Music Hall of Fame.
