Ãlvaro Yuri Alberto da Cunha, known as Yuri da Cunha (born September 13, 1980 in Sumbe, Angola), is an Angolan singer. He began performing at the age of ten and released his first CD in 1993. His influences include AndrÃ© Mingas, Carlos Burity, Eduardo PaÃm, and Michael Jackson. In 2004, he won that yearâs Top RÃ¡dio Luanda with the song "Makumba." He has released several albums, including Eu (2005), Kuma Kwa KiÃ© (2008), and Canta Artur Nunes (2012). His 2013 collaboration with the South African group Uhuru, âY-tjukutja,â became one of the most-played songs in South Africa at the time. Cunha and Uhuru performed the song at the MTV Africa Music Awards 2014, where it won Best Collaboration, and Cunha received two nominations for Song of the Year with âAtchu tchu tchaâ and for Best Lusophone act.
