Masia Lim, known professionally as Masia One, was born on April 5, 1982, in Singapore and later moved to Canada. She grew up in Vancouver before settling in Toronto, Ontario. In 2003, she founded an independent record label, M1 Group, and released her debut album, Mississauga. Masia One gained recognition when her single "Split Second Time" was nominated for Best Rap Video at the MuchMusic Video Awards in 2005. Her second album, Pulau, was released in the fall of 2008 in two volumes: Pulau: Chapter 1: Montreal in the Fall and Pulau: Chapter 2: The Islands. In 2012, her third album, Bootleg Culture, was released, featuring RZA and Canadian artists Isis Salam and Graph Nobel. Following this, she moved back to Singapore in 2015 and founded Singapura Dub Club, bringing Jamaican-inspired music to Southeast Asia.
