Marsha Hunt, born on April 15, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American singer. Raised primarily by her mother and grandmother, she moved to Kensington, California, in 1960. She began her music career as a backing singer with Alexis Korner's trio Free at Last after moving to London in February 1966. Her breakthrough came when she appeared as Dionne in the rock musical Hair on the London stage in 1968, which was a box-office smash and attracted significant media attention. Marsha Hunt's first single, "Walk on Gilded Splinters", was released in 1969 and became a minor hit. She followed this with her debut album, Woman Child, produced by Tony Visconti, in 1971. In 1973, she released the album Attention! Marsha Hunt! which included the song "(Oh No! Not!) The Beast Day". Her notable collaborations include working with Long John Baldry's band Bluesology and appearing at the Jazz Bilzen and Isle of Wight music festivals in August 1969. In 1977, she released another album titled Marsha, recorded at Musicland Studios in Munich and produced by Pete Belotte. Marsha Hunt also had a relationship with Marc Bolan, which inspired some of his musical work. Her career spanned various genres, including soul music.
