Biography

Marcus Nigsch, born 2 September 1972 in Altstätten, Swizterland, is an Austrian singer, composer, and producer who performs as Marque. He grew up in Feldkirch, teaching himself several instruments and later studying harmony and counterpoint at the Zürcher Musikuniversität. Marque’s debut album, Wanna Make Love to You (1995), showcased his multi‑instrumental skill and introduced him to the electronic and electro‑pop scene. In 2000 he achieved a commercial breakthrough with the single "One to Make Her Happy" from the album Freedomland, earning the Amadeus Austrian Music Award for Newcomer of the Year and Single of the Year. Subsequent releases-"River" (2000), "Electronic Lady" (2000), "Two More Lonely People" (2002), "The Reason Why" (2003), and "Sorry But I Wonder" (2004)-expanded his catalogue, while singles such as "Superstar" (2004) and "Who You Are" (2005) received national radio play. Parallel to his pop career, Marcus Nigsch composed scores for the ORF series Die Lottosieger (2008–2011) and the feature Die Mamba (2014), earning a nomination for the Austrian Film Prize in 2015. His later work includes theatrical compositions like the semi‑opera Gefährliche Liebschaften (2013) and the singspiel Das große Welttheater (2014). Marque’s contributions to electronic pop and contemporary classical music have been recognized with awards such as the 2014 Kunstförderpreis des Landes Vorarlberg and the 2018 Kompositionspreis des Landes Vorarlberg.
