Biography

Margaret Julia Thomas, born 21 November 1937 in Detroit, known as “Marlo”, is an American actress, producer, and social activist. After appearing in television programs such as Bonanza and 77 Sunset Strip, she gained recognition in the 1965 London production of Barefoot in the Park. Thomas established a reputation starring as Ann Marie in the sitcom That Girl (1966–1971), for which she won a Golden Globe Award. In 1972, she launched the children’s franchise Free to Be... You and Me, releasing a book and album. Thomas co-founded the Ms. Foundation for Women in 1973. Her discography includes the 2004 recording Marlo Thomas and Friends: Thanks & Giving All Year Long, which won the 2006 Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album for Children. Her accolades include four Emmy Awards and the 2014 Presidential Medal of Freedom.
