Biography
Hawaiian-born singer and musician Mark Kealiʻi Hoʻomalu is best known for the track "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride", included on the soundtrack to the animated film Lilo and Stitch. Born in 'Aiea, Honolulu County, on August 10, 1959, he began performing as a teenager with John Pi'ilani Watkins, covering traditional Hawaiian songs in the O'ahu region. Settled in California since 1979, he teaches hula dancing in San Francisco and took part in the Merrie Monarch Festival on several occasions between 1997 and 2000. Also a singer and guitarist, he recorded the album Po'okela Chants (1999) and attracted the attention of Disney Studios for the animated film Lilo and Stitch (2002), which featured two of his songs in addition to Elvis Presley's: the traditional "He Mele No Lilo" and another composed especially for the soundtrack, "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride". The singer then returned to his activities, creating a new dance center and releasing the albums Call It What You Like (2003) and Traditional Limits (2018). In 2025, "Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride" reached number 10 on the World Digital Songs Sales chart in the United States.
