MarieâClaude Pietragalla, born 2 February 1963 in Paris, is a French ballet dancer, singer and choreographer who began training in dance at the age of ten after attending a Maurice Béjart performance. She entered the Ãcole de danse du Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris at 10, joined the corps de ballet at 16, and was promoted to étoile in 1990 after a notable performance as Kitri in Don Quichotte. Between 1990 and 1998 she performed principal roles in Le Lac des cygnes, Giselle, La Bayadère and contemporary works by Maurice Béjart, Roland Petit and JiÅà Kylián. In 1998 she became artistic director of the Ballet National de Marseille, creating nine choreographies before founding the Théâtre du corps PietragallaâDerouault with Julien Derouault in 2005. The company staged Marco Polo (2008) and La Femme qui danse (2019). From 2012 to 2016, Marie-Claude Pietragalla was a member of the jury on the show Danse avec les stars, before taking on the same role on the classical talent show Prodiges starting in 2018. In 2025 she released her first album Barbara, with pianist Yannaël Quenel. Her career has been marked by awards, including the Prix Benois de la danse (1998) and the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (2018).
