Biography
Jonathan Mark Witt Holder, known as Marcos Witt, was born on May 19, 1962, in San Antonio, Texas. He began his musical career with the release of Canción a Dios in 1986 and founded CanZion Producciones in 1987, later becoming CanZion, a prominent producer of Christian music in Spanish. Marcos Witt's breakthrough came with the album Proyecto AA in 1991, featuring the hit song "Renuévame", which won Composition of the Year at the AMCL Awards in 1992. Over the next decade he consolidated his role as a leading voice in Spanish-language worship with albums like Sana Nuestra Tierra (2001), Recordando Otra Vez (2004), Dios es Bueno (2005), and AlegrÃa (2006), several of which earned Latin Grammy Awards for Best Christian Album, while he also built the CanZion Institute to train worship leaders internationally. In the 2000s and 2010s he continued releasing large-scale live productions including Sobrenatural (2008), 25 Concierto Conmemorativo (2011), and Sigues Siendo Dios (2014), and in 2017 he returned with the live album Jesús Salva, recorded at the Adoradores conference in Monterrey with guests such as Evan Craft, Harold & Elena, Un Corazón and Coalo Zamorano. In the 2020s Marcos Witt issued Viviré (2021), which received a Latin Grammy for Best Christian Album, and followed with the studio album Tu Iglesia (2023), built around songs birthed on his América Ora y Adora tour and collaborations with Steven Richards, Sarai Rivera, Harold & Elena and his children. In 2025 he released Legado, also known as Legado: Generaciones Adorando, a studio project revisiting his best-known songs alongside a new generation of Christian artists that went on to win the 2025 Latin Grammy Award for Best Christian Album in Spanish, marking more than forty years of sustained influence in contemporary worship music.
