Biography

Maija Johanna Vilkkumaa, born on November 9, 1973 in Helsinki, Finland, is a Finnish singer-songwriter. She began playing piano at an early age and formed her first band, Tarharyhmä, with friends in 1990. After studying Finnish language at the University of Helsinki, Vilkkumaa started taking singing lessons and launched her solo career in 1999 with the album Pitkä ihana leikki. Her debut single "Satumaa-tango" (1999) and subsequent albums Meikit, ketjut ja vyöt (2001) and Ei (2003) achieved significant chart success. Vilkkumaa's 2005 album Se ei olekaan niin earned her the Emma Award for Female Soloist of the Year. She received the Juha Vainio Award in 2010.
