Biography

Sade Adu (born January 16, 1959 in Ibadan, Nigeria), often just called Sade, is a smooth jazz, soul and R&B singer from the UK. Born Helen Folasade Adu, she initially worked as a model in the late 1970s. in 1980, Sade switched to the music business, initially as a singer in various bands. in 1984, Sade released her debut single "Your Love Is King", accompanied by a band. The song made it to number 6 in the UK and from then on the name Sade became synonymous not only with the singer, but with the artist's entire ensemble. Sade's debut album, Diamond Life, followed in the same year. The longplayer became a worldwide hit, reaching number 1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, number 2 in the UK and number 5 in the USA. Sade achieved another chart success with the single "Smooth Operator" (number 5 in the US charts). The album Promise followed in 1985. The album becomes a number 1 hit in the USA, Great Britain and Switzerland and also reaches top 10 positions in other countries.Thesong "The Sweetest Taboo" became Sade's next hit, reaching number 5 in the USA, among other places. In 1988, Sade released her next album, Stronger Than Pride. The singer also made it into the international top 10 of the charts with this album. The artist did the same in 1992 with the album Love Deluxe. The single "No Ordinary Love" also became an international hit. Sade then took an artistic break. In 2000, the singer returned with the album Lovers Rock and once again made it into the top 10 of the international charts. Sade scored another hit with the song "By Your Side". Another 10 years then passed before the next album Soldier Of Love. The album becomes a number 1 hit in the USA and Switzerland. Sade wins the Grammy Award several times, most recently in 2011 in the category Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. in 2018, Sade contributes the song "The Big Unknown" to the soundtrack for the film Widows. At the end of 2024, Sade releases the song "Young Lion". This appears on the sampler Transa.
