Biography

Smooth jazz duo the Braxton Brothers was formed in 1996 in San Francisco, California by twin siblings Nelson Braxton (bass) and Wayne Braxton (saxophone). The road to their career began when the two fourth graders joined the school band. By high school, they were both members of the California All-State Honor Band. Both went to different colleges and ended up as members of the Disney All-American collegiate band. Their professional careers took them in different directions – Nelson toured with Najee and Wayne worked with Sheila E – but the two came together as the Braxton Brothers in 1996. Their debut album, Steppin’ Out, was released that same year and introduced their smooth yet funky sound. The album was later reissued by the Windham Hill label and earned them a hit on smooth jazz radio with “When Love Comes Around”. Their second album, Now and Forever, was released in 1999. Moving over to the Peak Records label, the duo released the albums Both Sides (2002) and Rollin’ (2004). After a long break which saw the brothers working with a variety of artists, they reunited for the 2018 album Higher.
