Biography

Máddji, born Ánne Máddji Heatta in 1983, is a Norwegian singer and composer from the Sami people. She grew up in Karasjok and Kautokeino within the Finnmark region. Prior to her music career, Máddji was a footballer and played as a defender for FK Asker. She participated in the European Under-18 Championship in 2001 but had to retire due to a knee injury. Máddji's musical career began with her debut solo album Dobbelis / Beyond, released in 2010, under the label Saami DAT. The album received critical acclaim for its adaptation of traditional Sami music. In addition to her solo work, Máddji collaborated with Inger-Mari Aikio-Arianaick on two songs from her album Ima IPMASAT (2007) and contributed to Ton Damli Sindy's "Save Me" through her joik singing style.
