Biography

Madder Lake is an Australian progressive rock band formed in Melbourne in 1968 as San Sebastian. They initially consisted of Kerry McKenna on bass guitar and Brenden Mason on guitar. The group evolved through various line-up changes before settling with Mick Fettes on vocals, Jac Kreemers on drums, John McKinnon on keyboards, and changing their name to Madder Lake in 1971. They were signed by Michael Gudinski's Mushroom Records in late 1972, releasing their debut single "Goodbye Lollipop" in February 1973. Their first album Stillpoint followed in August 1973, featuring the notable track "12-LB. Toothbrush". Their second album, Butterfly Farm, was released in April 1974 but saw less critical and commercial success. Madder Lake left Mushroom Records after their last single "I Get High" in July 1976. They released the album World in 2013. Mick Fettes died on November 18, 2016.
