Biography

M. M. Keeravani is an award-winning Indian film composer and playback singer who was born as "Koduri Marakathamani Keeravaani" on July 4, 1961, in Kovvur, Andhra Pradesh. He launched his career in 1987 as K. Chakravarthi's assistant music director. By 1990, he was composing his own soundtracks, with 1991's Kshana Kshanam serving as his first mainstream hit. Kshana Kshanam earned him a Telugu Filmfare Award for "Best Music Director," an honor that M. M. Keeravani would receive more than 10 additional times during the subsequent decades. Meanwhile, he expanded into the world of Hindi cinema with films like 1994's Criminal and 1996's Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, then earned an equal amount of recognition for his work as a playback singer with projects like 1999's Seetharama Raju (whose soundtrack featured his vocals on five tracks) and 2001's Student Number 1 (for which he received the 2001 Nandi Award for "Best Male Playback Singer"). M. M. Keeravani received additional Nani Awards for "Best Male Playback Singer" with 2010's Maryada Ramanna and 2015's Baahubali: The Beginning, the latter of which doubled as his eighth film to earn Keeravani a Nandi Award for "Best Music Director." By the 2020s, he had composed music for more than 200 films, including 2021's Konda Polam.
