Biography

Lyres, a garage rock band from Boston, was formed in 1979 after the breakup of DMZ. The original lineup included Jeff Conolly on organ and vocals, Rick Coraccio on bass, Ricky Carmel on guitar, and Paul Murphy on drums. Their single, "How Do You Know?" b/w "Don't Give It Up Now" was released in 1979. Lyres gained attention with their debut LP On Fyre in 1984, featuring the track "Help You Ann", which ranked number 24 on The Village Voice annual Pazz & Jop critics' poll for 1983 and was later covered by Courtney Love. The band released several albums, including Lyres Lyres in 1986 and Live At Cantones in 1987. Throughout their career, Lyres collaborated with notable musicians such as Stiv Bators of the Dead Boys.
