An electronic pop artist from Cork, Ireland, Lyra grew up singing in her church choir before developing a songwriting style influenced by Enya, Kate Bush, and Lykke Li. She teamed up with one of Bush's former collaborators, producer Rupert Christie, for her debut EP W.I.L.D., which she self-released in July 2016. A critically-acclaimed success, W.I.L.D. earned over a million streams on Spotify. An episode of the Irish TV show Striking Out featured the W.I.L.D. track "Emerald" one year later, introducing Lyra's music to a wider audience and ultimately leading to record deals with both Polydor and Universal. Meanwhile, Lyra also appeared on The Joshua Tree - New Roots, a compilation of cover songs celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of U2's The Joshua Tree. Released in October 2017, the album peaked at Number 1 in Ireland, confirming Lyra's position as one of the country's most promising exports. She spent the following three years developing her sound while releasing a string of standalone singles, with 2019's "Falling" earning a nomination for Song of the Year from the RTÃ Choice Music Prize in 2020. Following the release of a four-track holiday EP, The Magic of Christmas, later that same year, Lyra began climbing the charts once again with a new single, "New Day," which peaked at Number 3 on the Irish Homegrown Top 20 chart in January 2021.
