Lowrell Simon, born on March 18, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, was an American singer known for his contributions to soul music. He formed the vocal group LaVondells during high school, which later became The Vondells and achieved regional success with Lenora in 1964. In 1969, Simon co-founded The Lost Generation, serving as lead singer and songwriter for their debut single "The Sly, Slick, and the Wicked", which reached Number 14 on the Billboard R&B charts. Simon's solo career began in 1978 with the release of his first single "Overdose Of Love". His breakthrough came the following year with "Mellow, Mellow Right On", which peaked at Number 32 on the US R&B charts and Number 37 in the UK. This success was followed by another R&B hit, "You’re Playing Dirty" (1980), and his self-titled debut album Lowrell (1979). In 1981, Simon released his final charting single "Love Massage", which reached Number 58 on the R&B charts. Throughout his career, Simon also contributed as a songwriter to tracks such as "Keep On Playing The Music" by Mystique and "All About The Paper" by Loleatta Holloway. Simon passed away on June 19, 2018, in Newton, Mississippi.
