Lower Than Atlantis was formed in Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, in 2007 by Mike Duce and Ben Sansom, with Duce later assuming lead vocal duties and the lineup later solidifying with bassist Declan Hart and drummer Eddy Thrower. The bandâs early work retained hardcore punk roots, culminating in the debut EP Bretton, released on 18 October 2008 through Small Town. Their breakthrough came with the 2010 single âTaping Songs Off The Radioâ and the full-length album Far Q, released on 29 March 2010, which mixed melodic hardcore with post-hardcore elements. The follow-up World Record, released in 2011, expanded their sound toward alternative rock. In 2012 the band signed with Island Records and issued Changing Tune on 1 October 2012, reaching number 25 on the UK Albums Chart, and later that year released the festive single âMerry Christmas (Wherever You Are)â. Their self-titled album Lower Than Atlantis, released on 6 October 2014 via Sony Music, produced the successful single âHere We Goâ. The final studio effort, Safe in Sound, peaked at number 8 on the UK Albums Chart in 2017. After a farewell tour, the group announced their disbandment on 2 December 2018, with the last performance held at Brixton Academy on 11 May 2019.
