Biography

Louis Mhlanga, born on November 10, 1956, in Zimbabwe, is a guitarist known for his contributions to African jazz and world music. He taught himself to play the guitar at a young age and began his career in the 1970s, fronting various bands in Zimbabwe where he blended American and Zimbabwean musical influences. Mhlanga's early collaborations included working with notable acts such as Shaka, Talking Drum, Ilanga, Mudzimu, and Oliver Mtukudzi. His international debut album, Shamwari, was released in 2001, showcasing his fusion of African pop and jazz. Throughout his career, Mhlanga collaborated with renowned artists such as Miriam Makeba, Hugh Masekela, Ray Phiri, Sipho Mabuse, and Busi Mhlongo. He also produced albums for Thomas Mapfumo, King Sunny Adé, and Vusi Mahlasela.
