Biography

Louis Auriacombe, born on February 22, 1917, in Pau, France, was a French conductor. He studied at the Toulouse Conservatory, earning prizes in violin, singing and declamation, and harmony. Auriacombe further trained under Igor Markevitch in Salzburg from 1951 to 1956. In 1953, he founded the Toulouse Chamber Orchestra, which he led until 1971. The orchestra was known for its performances of both baroque and contemporary music. Auriacombe also conducted larger ensembles such as the Orchestre symphonique de la RTF (later Radio France) and the Orchestre de la SociÃ©tÃ© des Concerts du Conservatoire. Notable recordings include Satie: Parade / GymnopÃ©dies Nos 1 Et 3 / RelÃ¢che (1967) and Vivaldi: Les Quatre Saisons (1971). After suffering a stroke, he remained in a coma for eleven years until his death on March 12, 1982.
