A French alternative rock band formed in Paris in 1985, Los Carayos is fronted by François Hadji-Lazaro and Manu Chao. The latter, singer and guitarist with the funk group Hot Pants, founded the All or Nothing Records label, which released their first self-produced album Ils Ont Osé! in 1986, blending traditional acoustic instruments with Latin-inspired electric rock. Formed with other musicians from the groups Parabellum, such as Roger Fritsch dit "Schultz" (guitar), Les Wampas, such as Alain Marietti (double bass), and Chihuahua, such as Manu Chao's younger brother Antoine Chao (drums), the supergroup, which teamed up with humorist Professor Choron for the track "Les Pages rouges du bottin" (1987), reunited for the album Persistent et Signent (1987), followed by Au Prix Où Sont les Courges (1990). Meanwhile, Manu Chao formed the group Mano Negra, which enjoyed success with the albums Patchanka (1988) and Puta's Fever (1989), and François Hadji-Lazaro continued his activities as manager of the Boucherie Productions label, actor and leader of the groups Les Garçons Bouchers and Pigalle. In fact, the commitments of these two personalities led to the break-up of Los Carayos in 1990.
