Biography

Born on September 1, 1959, in Milan, Italy, Lorenzo Ghielmi is a classical organist, harpsichordist, musicologist, and educator. He is best-known as the founder and director of La Divina Armonia, an early music ensemble. He is an authority on the works of Girolamo Frescobaldi and Milanese composers of the 16th and 17th centuries. As the organist at the Basilica di San Simpliciano in Milan (1992-1994), he played a series of recitals covering the complete organ music of Johann Sebastian Bach. As both an organist and harpsichordist, Lorenzo Ghielmi has performed concerts in Europe, Japan, and the United States. He has also performed as a duo with his brother Vittorio Ghielmi, who plays viola da gamba and harpsichord. As an educator, Lorenzo Ghielmi has taught at several institutions as well as giving master classes and lectures in many different countries. His record career began with early releases by Italian ensemble Il Giardino Armonico. His award-winning catalog includes Bach: Konzertbearbeitungen Für Orgel (1996), Tintinnabulum (2001), Anno 1630 (2003), Bach: Die Kunst der Fuge (2009), and Frescobaldi: Organ Works and Motets (2018).
