Biography

South African duo Locnville, comprising Andrew and Brian Chaplin emerged from a dual‑national upbringing that spanned the United States and South Africa. The identical twin brothers began performing locally in Cape Town, where they were discovered by producer Gabi Le Roux and formed the trio III before launching their own act, Locnville, in 2009. Their debut single "Sun in My Pocket" was released in 2009 and later featured in the FIFA 11 soundtrack; the accompanying album Sun in My Pocket (2010) reached Number 1 on the RISA South African Albums Chart and earned the duo the 2010 MK Award for Best Newcomer. In 2011, the brothers released Running to Midnight, followed by the mixtape Faster Longer Mixtape (2013) and the album The Odyssey (2013). The 2015 greatest‑hits collection The Hits compiled sixteen tracks, while the 2016 studio album Taste the Weekend introduced singles such as "Grapevine" featuring Sabi and "Cold Shoulder" with Sketchy Bongo. After a 2020 EP, Tribes & Angels, Locnville continued to collaborate with artists like Muzi Mnisi and Gigi Lamayne. Their label, Contra‑Banned, and clothing line Villey Clothing reflected the twins’ entrepreneurial ventures alongside their musical output.
