Lionel Joaquin Paul Long, known as Lionel Long, was a country and folk singer-songwriter, guitarist, actor, and artist born in 1939 in Burwood, New South Wales, Australia. He began his musical journey learning guitar from Gary Shearston while working as a jackaroo in the Hunter Valley and Queensland outback. In 1958, Long released his first singles under EMI Columbia, where he signed after being recognized for his talent by Ron Wills. His debut album Waltzing Matilda was released in 1961, followed by Wild Colonial Boy in 1962 and The Bold Bushrangers: Songs of Wild Colonial Days in 1963. Long's music career spanned over two decades, during which he released albums and singles such as "Follow the Wind" from Lionel Long Today (1967), and "Rainbow Connection" from his final album High, Wild and Handsome (1980). He also appeared on television programs like Homicide and hosted shows including Sing, Sing, Sing. Long passed away on January 1, 1998.
