Fahreta JahiÄ-ŽivojinoviÄ, better known as Lepa Brena, was born on October 20, 1960, in Tuzla, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SFR Yugoslavia. Raised in BrÄko, she began performing at local cultural events before moving to Belgrade in 1979. She joined Lira Show, later renamed Slatki Greh, and rose to fame with the 1982 album ÄaÄak, ÄaÄak. One of the most successful entertainers in the former Yugoslavia, she sold tens of millions of records and became a regional pop-folk icon. Brena appeared in films including Tesna koža and performed at major events such as the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. Her immense popularity continued through the 1980s, though she later faced controversy amid the political tensions surrounding the breakup of Yugoslavia. Her solo albums include Brena (1993) and Kazna Božija (1994).
