Lebo Mathosa, born Lebohang Precious Mathosa on July 16, 1977 in Daveyton, South Africa, was a kwaito singer known for her distinctive voice. She began singing at age seven and joined the band Boom Shaka at 14 after being discovered by a Johannesburg DJ. The group's debut album About Time was an instant hit. Mathosa left Boom Shaka to pursue a solo career in 1999, releasing her debut album Dream, which went gold within a month. She won three South African Music Awards in 2000 for Best Dance Album, Best Dance Single for "Ntozabantu", and Best Female Vocalist. Her subsequent albums included Drama Queen (2004) and Lioness (2006), which featured hits like "Bran New Day". Mathosa performed globally and acted in television shows such as Generations. She died on October 23, 2006, aged 29, in a car crash.
