French bass-baritone born in Paris in 1964, Laurent Naouri studied singing at London's Guildhall School and began his career as an opera singer in 1986. Son of pediatrician Aldo Naouri and brother of writer Hélène Desarthe, he performs works from both the Baroque and contemporary repertoires, in a register that he continues to expand. In opera, recital and recording, he has performed works by Berlioz(Benvenuto Cellini), Donizetti(L'Elisie d'amore, Le Duc d'Albe), Gluck, Handel, Lully, Rameau, Monteverdi, Mozart and Offenbach, as well as melodies by Ravel, Roussel, Stravinsky, Fauré and Poulenc(Poulenc et les poètes, 2001). In 2007, he recorded a program of Bill Evans songs with pianist Manuel Rocheman, and in 2015, he teamed up with Guillaume de Chassy for an album featuring Eisler and Prokofiev: Bridges. Laurent Naouri is also known as the husband of singer and star Natalie Dessay.
