Las Cafeteras, a group from East Los Angeles, California, formed in 2005 as students at the Eastside Cafe, a community space in El Sereno. They began by practicing Son Jarocho music and quickly gained enthusiasm for promoting this Mexican folk genre. Their debut album It's Time was released in 2012. The group is known for blending poetry with traditional Mexican music, including Son Jarocho and Afro-Mexican influences. Notable songs include "La Bamba Rebelde," a reimagined version of Ritchie Valens' classic that highlights their Chicano pride, and "Sueño Americano," which was featured in the Telemundo telenovela Mi Familia Perfecta. Las Cafeteras have performed at venues such as the Mayan Theatre, Santa Barbara Bowl, Royce Hall, California African-American Museum, Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Plaza de la Raza, and Queens Museum of Art. Their music addresses themes like civil rights, immigration reform, and social justice.
