Biography

Larry Cordle is an American country and bluegrass singer-songwriter born in 1948 in Kentucky. He began his career as a songwriter, writing hits including “Alabama Clay” for Garth Brooks and “Highway 40 Blues” for Ricky Skaggs. In 1990, he formed the band Lonesome Standard Time with Glen Duncan. The group released its self-titled debut album in 1992, which received a Grammy Award nomination. Cordle is best known for the song “Murder on Music Row”, which was recorded as a duet by George Strait and Alan Jackson. The track won Vocal Event of the Year at the 2000 Country Music Association Awards and was nominated for Song of the Year. His solo recording history included the albums Took Down and Put Up (2007), Pud Marcum's Hangin' (2011), Give Me Jesus (2017) and Where the Trees Know My Name (2021).
