Biography

Kélétigui et Ses Tambourinis was a dance music orchestra founded in Conakry, Guinea, by the government of the newly independent state. Led by saxophone and keyboard player Kélétigui Traoré, the group emerged from the Syli Orchestre National, which was established to promote traditional Guinean music over European styles popular during the colonial period. The orchestra was based at La Paillote nightclub in Conakry and released numerous recordings for the state-owned Syliphone record label. After the demise of Syliphone in 1984, Kélétigui et Ses Tambourinis continued to perform regularly. Following Traoré's death in 2008, the orchestra was led by Linke Conde and continues to play at their original venue. Notable releases include Keletigui Et Ses Tambourinis (1972) and compilations including The Syliphone Years (2009).
