Biography

Lakyn Heperi, born on 28 April 1992 in Auckland, New Zealand, is a singer and songwriter who gained prominence through his participation in The Voice Australia. Heperi began playing piano at the age of three, encouraged by his musician parents. At twelve, he moved to Victoria, Australia with his family. During his teenage years, Heperi became a semi-professional skateboarder before an ankle injury led him to focus on music. He shared his songwriting and musicianship on YouTube, building a substantial fan base. Heperi's breakthrough came when he auditioned for The Voice Australia in 2012 with an acoustic version of "Kids" by MGMT. His performance impressed Joel Madden and Seal, leading to his advancement in the competition. He released his debut EP, Better Than That, on 16 November 2012 through Universal Music Australia. The EP included four original songs and an acoustic cover of "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" by Cutting Crew. His studio recording of "Big Jet Plane" by Angus & Julia Stone topped the iTunes singles chart, marking a significant achievement for The Voice contestants. Heperi's second EP, Not Original Material, was released in January 2014 and debuted at Number 44 on the charts.
