Biography
Lake Malawi, a Czech indie pop band from TÅinec, was formed in 2013 by lead vocalist and guitarist Albert Äerný following the breakup of his former group, Charlie Straight. The band released their debut single "Always June" in 2014 and performed it live on BBC London. Their first EP, We Are Making Love Again, was self-released in May 2015. In November 2017, Lake Malawi self-released their debut studio album, Surrounded by Light. The band represented the Czech Republic in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 with "Friend of a Friend," finishing in 11th place. Their second album, The Great Video Game Crush, was released in October 2022.
