Juana Emilia Herrera GarcÃa, known as La Niña Emilia, was born on April 16, 1932, in Mahates, BolÃvar, Colombia. She was a singer specializing in bullerengue, a genre of Colombian folk music from the Caribbean coast. Her distinctive voice and signature style were characterized by her melancholic yet joyful tone, golden nails, and dark glasses that she never removed. La Niña Emilia gained recognition later in life. She recorded an album with Alfredo Gutiérrez and was part of the group Los Soneros de Gamero alongside Irene MartÃnez. Some of her notable songs include "Coroncoro" and "Currucuchú". La Niña Emilia passed away on September 15, 1993, in Barranquilla due to liver complications. In 2017, she was posthumously honored with a statue in her hometown of Evitar and a television production titled Déjala morir.
