Biography

La Maxima 79, founded in Milan, Italy, in 2010 by Fabrizio Zoro, is an Italian salsa group. Zoro, a percussionist and DJ, established the band to recreate a 1970s New York “salsa dura” sound. The group released the debut album Regresando al Guaguancó (2013), which featured pianist Massimo Scalici, followed by Joseito (2016) with Tony Velardi, #Resiliencia (2019) with Marco Puma, and Un Nuevo Día (2022). Its notable tracks include “Pobrecita” (2013), “Mi Chula” (2013), and “La Gripe” (2015). The band earned accolades at the International Songwriting Competition in 2013 for “Pobrecita” and at the USA Songwriting Competition in 2014. Performances at various festivals across Europe reinforced its position in the salsa scene.
