Biography

La Gusana Ciega, a Mexican alternative rock band formed in 1993, consists of Daniel Gutiérrez on vocals and guitar, Germán Arroyo on drums, and Luis Ernesto Martínez "Lu" on bass. The group gained recognition in Mexico City’s underground music scene through performances at local bars and clubs. Their debut album, Merlina, released in 1996, received positive public reception. They followed this with other well-received releases such as Superbee (1997), and Correspondencia Interna (1999). In 2000, they released a live album titled La Gusana Ciega. Despite their growing popularity, La Gusana Ciega disbanded in May 2002 and reunited in 2005. Their fourth studio album, La Rueda del Diablo (2006), was followed by Conejo en el Sombrero (2011). In 2014, they released Monarca, which was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in the Best Rock Album category. Throughout the rest of the 2010s and 2020s they sustained momentum with touring and catalog projects and returned to the studio for Borregos en la Niebla (2017) and the album cycle 1021 (released 2022–2023 on streaming), followed by the live release Vuelves a Ser (2023) and the album Nuevos Clásicos (2024). In 2025 the trio opened a new chapter by previewing Claroscuro, a concept release introduced with a three-song EP, while continuing international dates.
