Sir MacLean Emanuel, known as King Short Shirt, was born on February 28, 1942, in St. John's, Antigua. He began his musical journey performing in backyard shows and concerts at the Spring Gardens Moravian School. After working in St. Thomas, he returned to Antigua, where he entered his first calypso competition in the early 1960s, finishing as second runner-up. His breakthrough came in 1964 when he won with "No Place Like Home" and "Heritage". Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Emanuel secured numerous victories in calypso competitions. He released several albums, including Spiced And Styled (1973), Ghetto Vibes (1976), and Illusion (1977). Notable songs include "Tourist Leggo" (1976), which won the Antiguan Road March. In 2002, he received a knighthood from the government of Antigua and Barbuda for his contributions to calypso music. Emanuel converted to Christianity in 1997 and began producing gospel material under the name Brother Emanuel.
