Biography

Kim Cascone, born December 21, 1955 in Albion, Michigan, is an American composer known for his work in ambient and electronic music. In 1989, Cascone began his career as an assistant music editor for director David Lynch on Twin Peaks and Wild at Heart. He gained prominence under the moniker Heavenly Music Corporation, releasing several albums from 1993 to 1996. In 1996, Cascone sold his record label Silent Records and worked as a sound designer/composer for Thomas Dolby's company Beatnik. Returning to music in 1999, he has released over 50 albums under his own name and various labels, including Rondo/7Phases/Blowback with Merzbow in 2004 and Statistically Improbable Phrases in 2006. Notable collaborations include work with Merzbow, Keith Rowe, Tony Conrad, Scanner, John Tilbury, Domenico Sciajno, and Pauline Oliveros. Cascone has also been recognized for his academic contributions, notably for the paper The Aesthetics of Failure, which explored digital glitches in post-digital music.
